As the world moves towards a sustainable future, the demand for renewable energy is on the rise. And with it, job opportunities in this sector are also increasing. According to the ninth edition of IRENA’s “Renewable energy and jobs: Annual review 2022” report, the number of people employed in the renewable energy sector has jumped from 12 million in 2020 to 12.7 million in 2021.
Solar photovoltaics is the most dynamic industry with 4.3 million jobs in 2021, accounting for over a third of the total renewable energy workforce. The wind power sector also saw significant growth with 1.3 million jobs in 2021, and hydropower also saw a significant amount of jobs with 2.4 million direct jobs in 2021.
Under an ambitious energy transition scenario, the report predicts that worldwide employment in renewable energy could reach 38.2 million in 2030, and the number of jobs in the energy sector could rise to 139 million.
It’s an exciting time to be part of the renewable energy industry. Not only is the sector growing and creating more job opportunities, but it’s also helping to create a more sustainable future for us all. The increasing demand for renewable energy sources is leading to the creation of many new and diverse jobs, including in engineering, construction, operations, finance and maintenance. And with the world moving towards a greener future, the renewable energy sector might be the place to be to build a career.
