New Ørsted and Terra Solar Partnership to Power 90,000 Irish Homes

In a truly powerful partnership, Ørsted has joined forces with Terra Solar to create a 400 MW solar energy portfolio to create renewable energy for over 90,000 Irish homes. This collaboration amplifies Ørsted’s commitment to Ireland’s green energy landscape, adding to their 600 MW solar pipeline. Pending grid approvals, these projects aim for completion by 2030, aligning with Ireland’s 8 GW Climate Action Plan solar target.

Following their recent UK solar project announcement, Ørsted is expanding its presence in Ireland. TJ Hunter, Senior Director at Ørsted, emphasized the importance of solar energy in Ireland’s energy mix, noting its role in reducing fossil fuel reliance alongside wind and energy storage. Sharing the excitement, André Fernon, Director at Terra Solar, stated, “Terra Solar is thrilled to partner with Ørsted in the development of these solar projects, which, with their combined capacity of up to 400 MW, will play a significant role in shaping Ireland‘s low-carbon future. This partnership will bolster our domestic energy supply and ensure competitively priced green electricity for Irish consumers.”

Ørsted‘s commitment to sustainable energy extends beyond solar in Ireland, with 378 MW of onshore wind currently operating across the island, catering to the energy needs of over 230,000 homes.

Recognized as one of the world’s leading sustainable energy companies, Ørsted boasts over 5.7 GW of onshore renewables in operation, under construction, or consented across the United States and Europe. The company’s Irish headquarters are located in Cork City, where it employs over 100 dedicated individuals, each contributing to a greener, more sustainable future.
